Bowie Man Gets 33 Months For Loaded Glock Found Near DC’s U Street

A 30-year-old Bowie man already on supervised release for a gunpoint robbery has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison after police caught him carrying a loaded Glock 22 near Washington, D.C.’s U Street corridor. Tyzell Myrick pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon before a federal judge handed down the sentence.

According to DailyVoice.com, the case traces back to an encounter near the Crown gas station on Florida Avenue NW, where police spotted the outline of a firearm protruding from Myrick’s pants. A search turned up a .40-caliber Glock 22 loaded with 21 rounds total — one already chambered and 20 more in the magazine. The outlet reports the arrest happened around midnight on August 17, 2025, though a separate Justice Department account describes officers stopping Myrick and recovering the weapon during a pat-down on June 12, 2026; the two sources do not agree on when the stop occurred.

Myrick was a convicted felon at the time, which made possessing the firearm itself a federal crime regardless of any other circumstances. He was already on supervised release stemming from a 2017 armed robbery of a Maryland GameStop, in which he brandished a firearm and was later handed an 84-month prison sentence for that offense, per the same account.

A Guilty Plea and a Contested Sentencing Date

The station’s report states Myrick pleaded guilty in June 2026 to illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon. Prosecutors had asked the court to impose 41 months behind bars, but U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras instead sentenced him to 33 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release once he completes his term…
