Dollar General donates food to Feeding Southwest Virginia, Second Harvest

TENNESSEE/VIRGINIA (WJHL) — Dollar General has donated more than a million pounds of food to Virginia and Tennessee food banks through a partnership with Feeding America.

In News Channel 11’s viewing area, Dollar General donated food to Feeding Southwest Virginia and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee.

“Through these donations, we are proud to help combat hunger and increase access to nutritious foods for residents in need ,” Denine Torr, Dollar General’s vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy, said in a news release.

Approximately 44 million people in the United States are reportedly food insecure.

“With approximately 75% of Americans living within five miles of a Dollar General store, we are uniquely positioned to serve communities and make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors,” Torr said. “We continue to be grateful for Feeding America’s ongoing partnership as we continue our efforts.”
