Failed bank robbery lands Washington man in jail on New Year’s Eve

REDDING, California — A Washington man was arrested after a failed bank robbery attempt at Wells Fargo Bank in Redding on New Year’s Eve, according to the Redding Police Department. The suspect, 41-year-old Antaolii Glukhenkyi, was apprehended as he exited the bank with stolen money.Officers responded to the bank at 1515 Pine Street around 9:34 a.m. after employees reported that a male suspect had entered, demanded money with a note, and claimed to be armed. Police quickly established a perimeter and arrested Glukhenkyi, who was not carrying a firearm during the robbery, the department stated.Glukhenkyi, who had been staying at transitional housing in downtown Redding, told detectives he needed money to pay off debt. He was booked into Shasta County Jail on robbery charges, according to the Redding Police Department.
