Driver veers off Beltway, kills 80-year-old in crash

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. — A driver veered off the Capital Beltway, hitting another car on the shoulder and killing an 80-year-old passenger on Sunday, Maryland State Police said.

Just south of Temple Hills Road on I-495, a Toyota Sienna was stopped on the right shoulder of the road. Inside, there was a 65-year-old man driving and two women as passengers, 72 and 80. Before 12:30 p.m., a Volkswagen Jetta being driver by a 23-old-man drove out of the travel lanes and hit the stopped Toyota.

The 80-year-old woman was brought in an ambulance to University of Maryland Capital Regional Hospital, where she later died. The 72-year-old woman was also brought to the same hospital, and the 65-year-old man was brought to Suburban Hospital. Both of them survived, but police have not said how badly they were injured…
