$80K in Regional Funding Approved for Braddock Road Safety Improvements Near Alexandria City High School

ALEXANDRIA, VA — At its May meeting on Monday, May 21, the Regional Roadway Safety Program (RRSP) of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) approved $80,000 in funding for a critical pedestrian safety initiative along Braddock Road in Alexandria.

The Braddock Road Safety Improvements project targets the section between Quaker Lane and North Van Dorn Street—an increasingly busy corridor due to heightened pedestrian traffic between the modernized Minnie Howard Campus and the main campus of Alexandria City High School.

The need for improvements has been underscored by community feedback and a 2023 Safe Routes to School Walk Audit, which identified multiple safety hazards.
