Five months into 2025, violent crime is down 22% in DC

WASHINGTON — Crime is continuing to go down in the District. D.C. Police statistics show that all violent crime and most property crime is down.

Now a year and a half after D.C. recorded the largest crime spike in the country, the city’s year-to-date crime numbers are significantly below not just 2023’s jump, but also pre-pandemic levels.

Sex abuse crimes took the biggest dip of the violent crime categories, plummeting 49%. D.C. Police report they saw 40 cases of sex abuse crimes through June 1 of 2025, compared with 78 cases at this time in 2024…
