Waldorf Man Airlifted After Firework Mishap Ends in Severe Leg Injury

WALDORF, Md. — A 52-year-old man was airlifted to MedStar Trauma Center late Friday night after a firework reportedly exploded into his leg during a Fourth of July incident in Waldorf, according to emergency dispatch records.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:51 p.m. at a residence on the 2000 block of Rosewood Drive. Initial reports from a caller, believed to be the victim’s father, indicated that the man had “shot a firework at himself” and was “bleeding and burned.”

First responders arrived to find the victim suffering from a severe leg injury. According to dispatch notes, he is diabetic and his blood sugar had reportedly spiked. He was noted to be in and out of consciousness, with rapid breathing and worsening pain as the scene unfolded. A burn approximately the size of a quarter was observed on the victim’s leg.
