WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A D.C. man was sentenced to over 11 years in prison for the role he played in a scheme to steal real estate property and generate fraudulent loans.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia said in a news release Monday that starting in November 2019, 68-year-old Jeffrey M. Young-Bey of D.C. worked to steal a townhouse in LeDroit Park to get mortgage financing against it.
He found a property that was owned by an elderly individual and prepared a false deed that included forged signatures and a fake notary stamp. He then filed that deed with the District of Columbia Recorder of Deeds before submitting it to a mortgage services business, telling the business that someone else had inherited the property and wanted to take out a loan against the home’s value…
