ALEXANDRIA, Va. (7News) — A routine bond hearing in Alexandria circuit court on Friday morning revealed graphic new details about the way a local pet groomer allegedly engaged in acts of animal cruelty, resulting in the death of a three-year-old golden retriever in one case, prosecutors say.
Until his arrest on Monday, 29-year-old Kevin Sanders was employed as a dog bather and groomer at Your Dog’s Best Friends, a popular pet grooming and boarding facility in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood. Sanders faces one felony count of animal cruelty resulting in the death of a companion dog and four misdemeanor counts, relating to the abuse of four other dogs.
At a bond hearing Friday in Alexandria Circuit Court, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Ashtyn McDaniel told the judge Sanders “is a danger to the community,” adding that Sanders can be seen on the video “committing heinous and cruel acts.”…
