Photo recognition software used to help police nab DC bank robbery suspects

WASHINGTON (7News) — Police made quick arrests for a July 31 bank robbery where photo recognition software combined with old-fashioned police work helped close the case.

According to court documents, two men, later identified as Shawn Seegars and Bobby Ransom, allegedly robbed the Truist Bank at 6422 Georgia Avenue NW, which is in the Brightwood neighborhood.

Ransom, who also goes by the name of “Ranson,” along with Seegars, were charged Monday in U.S. District Court with bank robbery, Hobbs Act robbery, and robbery as stated in the D.C. Code. The Hobbs Act prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce…
