Takoma Park Doctor Charged With Medicare Fraud

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Maryland obtained a $1.4 million judgment against a family doctor practicing in Takoma Park. The doctor was cited for submitting false claims or causing false claims to be submitted to Medicare.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Dr. Richard Akoto used a P-stim device to treat patients for pain. That device provides electrical acupuncture and is used externally. Acupuncture is not reimbursable by Medicare.
