GREENBELT, Md. (DC News Now) — A Silver Spring man was sentenced to eight years in federal prison on Wednesday for distributing fentanyl that caused the death of a teenager in 2022, according to the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Maryland.
Mikiyas Kefyalew, 27, was convicted of knowingly misrepresenting fentanyl while selling it to a vulnerable victim and is ordered to forfeit his profit from drug-dealing and pay restitution.

According to court documents, Kefyalew sold fentanyl disguised as circular, blue pills with “M 30” on them, mimicking an oxycodone hydrochloride pill, to a Bethesda teenager, which later resulted in their death.
