Barricade incident in Northeast DC led to hours-long road closures

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — D.C. police officers blocked off several roads in Northeast after a barricade situation unfolded on Tuesday morning.

Details remain limited, however, D.C. police told DC News Now that the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) received a call for a person in crisis in the 2700 block of New York Ave. just before 8 a.m. on Aug. 19.

When officers arrived, they found a person who had barricaded themselves inside a vehicle and refused to come out.

As a result, police blocked off the 2000 block of Bladensburg Road NE and New York Avenue at Bladensburg NE for more than three hours. All traffic from New York Avenue was diverted onto South Dakota Avenue, but all roads have since reopened.
