WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — As DC police and federal agents continue making arrests nine days after President Donald Trump’s decision to federalize local police, members of law enforcement are increasingly scrutinized for concealing their identities on city streets.
Videos showing masked agents detaining and arresting people nationwide have prompted pushback from many social media users, including one where masked men detained someone in DC on Saturday.
During a press conference Wednesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser said, “We believe in our environment, an urban environment, that there’s no reason for any official to wear a mask.”
“I think this is a good question for the Congress to prohibit law enforcement agencies that are working in urban environments from wearing masks,” Bowser added during a question-and-answer session with reporters, following an event welcoming back public school teachers to classrooms.
