DC Fire and EMS mourns the loss of probationary firefighter after off-duty death

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The DC Fire and EMS Department is mourning the loss of Probationary Firefighter Sadia Williams, 21, Cadet Class of ’27, after her off-duty death on Sunday.

Williams had recently graduated from the fire academy on Friday, August 22, and was set to serve at Engine Company 13 in Southwest Waterfront.

DC Fire and EMS describes Williams as a “dedicated employee, rising professional, and a bright presence within our organization.”

The Department issued a statement Sunday that reads:

“It is with deep sorrow that the DC Fire and EMS Department announces the tragic and unexpected loss of Probationary Firefighter Sadia D. Williams, 21 years old and a proud graduate of Cadet Class 27, who graduated on Friday, August 22, 2025. Probationary Firefighter Williams was soon to begin her public service at Engine Company 13, in the Southwest Waterfront neighborhood. Probationary Firefighter Williams passed away, while off-duty, on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
