MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A 37-year-old Fairfax, Va., man is facing a felony firearm charge and several misdemeanors after deputies said he crashed his vehicle while intoxicated at the Maryland International Raceway, where an off-duty trooper reported finding a loaded handgun in plain view on his floorboard.
The incident occurred on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at about 9:45 p.m. According to the statement of probable cause, an off-duty Maryland state trooper working security at the raceway responded to a collision where a green Chevrolet Suburban had struck a parked, unoccupied RV.
The trooper made contact with the driver, identified as Jamere Andre Alexander, and wrote in charging documents that he detected a strong odor of alcohol. The trooper reported Alexander’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and his speech was slurred. While speaking with him, the trooper said he observed a black Springfield handgun lying on the front driver’s side floorboard.
