‘Like a kidnapping’ | Man gets married four days before ICE arrest in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The stepson of a man recently arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Alexandria is speaking out, saying his stepfather was racially profiled and wrongly detained.

Family identified Alberto Ortiz Martinez, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, as one of the people taken into custody last week at the Eaton Square apartment complex in the Arlandria-Chirilagua neighborhood, a predominantly Latino area. Martinez had lived in Virginia for two years after previously residing in Georgia.

“He was just leaving for work,” said Oscar, his stepson, who asked to be identified only by his first name. “Out of all the people, you chose him — a hardworking, kind-hearted man — and took him like a criminal.”…
