Demonta King, an 18-year-old from Washington, D.C., has received a 15-year sentence for a series of violent crimes, including an armed carjacking and a separate armed robbery. According to a report from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, King pleaded guilty to one count of armed carjacking and one count of armed robbery before Superior Court Judge Jennifer Di Toro, who dispensed the prison term followed by five years of supervised release. This decision came despite King requesting a sentence under the Youth Rehabilitation Act.
Running away on foot after crashing the stolen vehicle, the defendant was arrested following the November 2024 carjacking incident, which took place in northeast Washington, where King brandished a knife at a cab driver, stabbing him in the hand to make away with the taxicab along with the victim’s possessions. As per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the taxicab driver, having stood approximately five feet away from his vehicle, was cornered by King, who demanded, “Give me everything,” resulting in the theft of personal items and the ensuing pursuit by the authorities.
A preceding incident in August 2022 involved King at the age of 16, where he committed armed robbery in the 100 block of Gallatin Street and 1st Place NE.
