DC man charged with allegedly assaulting ex-girlfriend multiple times

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A 22-year-old man was arraigned Thursday for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend multiple times, according to the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia.

Nyzir Miles, of Washington, appeared in front of a grand jury in the D.C. Superior Court on Sept. 10, where he was indicted on charges of:

  • Felony assault with significant bodily injury
  • Four counts of misdemeanor assault
  • Two counts of simple assault
  • Two counts of obstructing, preventing, or interfering with reports to or requests for assistance from law enforcement agencies, medical providers, or child welfare agencies.

According to the court documents, on Sept. 2, 2024, around 11 p.m. in the 700 block of Decatur Place NE, Miles and his then-girlfriend had gotten into an argument while they were in the car that ended in Miles allegedly punching her in the face.

Court documents stated that hours later, Miles once again became angry at his then-girlfriend and proceeded to repeatedly punch her in the mouth, requiring her to be hospitalized.
