Two teens charged in fireworks assault on officers in Vienna McDonald’s

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Two teens were arrested Wednesday in connection with a fireworks assault inside a Vienna McDonald’s that left two officers hurt, the Vienna Police Department detailed.

Police said Melanie Pedraza-Gutierrez, 18, of Falls Church, and a 16-year-old were charged with:

  • Two counts of malicious bodily injury to law enforcement officers
  • Two counts of malicious bodily injury by use of an explosive or fire
  • Two counts of throwing a missile at an occupied vehicle
  • Two counts of throwing a missile at an occupied building
  • Disorderly conduct

Pedraza-Gutierrez was additionally charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to police, on Sept. 26 at 9:20 p.m., officers responded to reports of a fight involving a large group of high school students at a McDonald’s located at 544 Maple Ave. West.

There, police said as officers tried to break up the crowd, two people launched fireworks in their direction, resulting in two officers sustaining minor injuries and a hole torn in the ceiling of the building. Both officers were treated on scene and remained on duty.

The Vienna Police Criminal Investigations Section conducted multiple interviews and search warrants, which led to Pedraza-Gutierrez and the 16-year-old being identified as suspects…
