Residents from Eastern Virginian northward to Maryland, Delaware & New Jersey should be preparing for a major coastal storm that will develop east of the Florida coast Friday into Saturday and then barrel northward up the East Coast. This storm will bring strong winds especially along the coast, heavy rains, coastal flooding and beach erosion. The storm will begin Saturday in Virginia, Maryland and the Delmarva Peninsula and then spread northward to Delaware and New Jersey Saturday night into Sunday.
Latest weather models are showing a developing low east of Florida. High pressure will be covering much of the Northeast into the Mid Atlantic. As the low pushes northward into that high pressure area, the gradient between the two systems will tighen. This will create strong winds from off the ocean. Wind gusts along the coast could reach 50 mph or higher. In addition, northeast winds will continue into the weekend ahead of the storm. Coupled by higher than normal tides due to the recent full moon, ocean water levels will be high to begin with. This will create moderate to perhaps areas of major coastal flooding in Chesapeak Bay, both coasts of the Delmarva Peninsula, Delaware Bay and coastal New Jersey.
