A Southeast D.C. man faces multiple charges after reportedly threatening a neighbor with a BB gun and a machete last week. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Robert Hammond, 74, was arrested last Friday on charges that include assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of an unregistered firearm.
The incident unfolded in the 3400 block of 23rd Street, Southeast, when Hammond allegedly pointed the BB gun at his neighbor and her dog. The situation escalated when he also brandished a machete and threatened to use it. A report from the Metropolitan Police Department states, “the suspect told the victim that he would shoot both her and her dog.” Following these threats, police were called to the scene.
Officers responded and were able to take Hammond into custody without further incident. The weapons, including the BB gun, a machete, and a twelve-gauge shotgun, were retrieved from Hammond’s possession at the time of his arrest.
