Metro ridership drops as government shutdown drags on

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Metro platforms have been sparsely sprinkled with passengers for weeks, a clear sign of the effects of the government shutdown rippling through the region’s transit system.

“It means something’s very wrong,” said Metro rider Zane Henderson. “Something’s very wrong. Money’s not circulating within the DMV area. And like I said, it’s really unfortunate that these workers are off.”

Metro says ridership among federal employees is down 24 percent since the shutdown began on Oct. 1, compared to weekdays in September…
