USPTO to lay off 126 workers at Alexandria headquarters in December

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will lay off 126 employees at its Alexandria headquarters, effective Dec. 9, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN Notice) filed with the Virginia Department of Workforce Development and Advancement on Oct. 14.

The Washington Business Journal first reported the story.

The layoffs represent less than 1% of the USPTO’s approximately 14,000-person workforce. The affected positions are at the agency’s headquarters at 600 Dulany Street in Alexandria’s Carlyle neighborhood, though some employees may work remotely.
