Maryland residents on SNAP benefits react to state of emergency

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (DC News Now) — The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is facing a major disruption, leaving thousands of families across the D.C. region worried about how they’ll put food on the table with the government shutdown halting SNAP funding. The effects are expected to hit hard starting this weekend.

To help fill the gap, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore has declared a state of emergency and allocated $10 million to local food banks to assist families in need.
