Traffic Stop Leads to Gun Arrest Monday Afternoon

A routine traffic stop in Downtown Silver Spring led to the recovery of a loaded handgun and the arrest of a driver who attempted to flee, according to the Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District.

Captain Jason Cokinos, Commander of the 3rd District, shared the update on X Friday evening. He reported that officers conducted the stop around 4:30 p.m. on November 24 near the intersection of Fenton Street and Gist Avenue, just south of the core downtown area.

Cokinos wrote that the driver immediately exited the vehicle and attempted to evade officers, but was quickly apprehended. During the search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded Glock handgun.
