The Montgomery County Police Third District Holiday Crime Suppression Task Force began its seasonal enforcement effort on December 1, focusing on reducing theft and increasing safety in Silver Spring retail areas.
During its first week, officers made multiple arrests including two handgun-related cases and handled several theft and drug incidents, traffic stops, citations, and warrant services as the initiative continues through the holiday season.
According to MCPD, “Since the task force’s beginning, officers have made two handgun arrests. On the second day of the initiative, officers attempted to arrest a suspect for fare evasion at the Silver Spring Metro. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. He was additionally charged with firearm possession by a convicted felon.
