Friday Evening Commute Could Be Impacted by Freezing Rain and Sleet

A Winter Weather Advisory and Hazardous Weather Outlook by the National Weather Service (NWS) remain in effect for parts of Maryland and Northern Virginia, with the greatest concern focused on northern Montgomery County and areas farther north.

According to the NWS, the primary threat zone includes Frederick, Washington, Howard, and Carroll counties, as well as northwest Montgomery County, where wintry precipitation is more likely. Precipitation is expected to begin between 12–2 p.m. Friday and taper off around midnight.

The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from noon through midnight Friday for portions of central, north-central, and northern Maryland and northern Virginia. Forecasters are calling for mixed precipitation, including freezing rain and sleet. Ice accumulations are expected to range from a trace up to one-tenth of an inch, with locally higher amounts possible closer to the Pennsylvania border.
