Watch: Firefighters Rescue Man Trapped Beneath I-66 Bridge Over Potomac River

A dangerous rescue unfolded beneath one of the region’s busiest bridges Saturday morning when firefighters worked to save a man trapped below the I-66 span over the Potomac River.

DC Fire and EMS crews were dispatched just before 7 a.m. on Jan. 3, after a man was found stuck inside construction scaffolding beneath the I-66 bridge, also known as the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge, officials said.

Because of the man’s location below-grade and underneath the bridge, firefighters launched a rope rescue operation, officials said, deploying special operations crews alongside land units and fireboats…
