George Sydnor, 46, was sentenced to 40 years in prison by Superior Court Judge Neal Kravitz for the premeditated first-degree murder of 31-year-old Christy Bautista, who was killed in her room at the Ivy City Hotel in Washington, D.C., on March 31, 2023. Sydnor, who pleaded guilty on October 17, 2025, was arrested the same day as the killing, which occurred while he was already on release for a prior attempted robbery case, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Bautista had traveled from Harrisonburg, Virginia, to attend a concert and went to her hotel to unload her belongings, an activity U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro called “an experience that should have been safe and routine,” before she was attacked.
