Tuna Recalled for ‘Potentially Fatal’ Contamination ‘Inadvertently’ Distributed to 9 States

The accidental distribution comes almost a year after the canned tuna products were originally recalled in February 2025

On Friday, Jan. 16, Tri-Union Seafoods announced that a third-party distributor shipped “quarantined product” to nine states.

The quarantined products include 4-packs of Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil and single cans of Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Sea Salt, both of which were recalled back in February 2025 after the company’s supplier flagged a manufacturing defect on the pull tab.

The packaging issue could affect the seal of the product over time causing it to leak or be contaminated with clostridium botulinum, a “potentially fatal form of food poisoning,” according to the FDA’s recall notice from Monday, Jan. 19…
