Second Suspect Charged in 2023 Murder Case of Chyna Crawford in Southwest D.C.

Metropolitan Police Department has announced a second arrest in connection to the case of Chyna Crawford, a 25-year-old woman who was reported missing and later found deceased in Southwest, D.C., back in 2023. Crawford was last seen on the night of October 23, and her disappearance immediately aroused suspicion, prompting a thorough investigation by MPD’s Homicide Branch, according to a recent press release on MPD.

The initial investigation led to charges against 32-year-old Lashawn Washington, including First Degree Murder-Felony Murder, Kidnapping, and Obstruction of Justice. A DC Superior Court bench warrant resulted in his arrest by the U.S. Marshals Service in March 2024. Continuing their investigation, MPD homicide detectives identified a second suspect in the troubling case, 31-year-old Bjarni Cooper, who was arrested on January 29, on charges of First Degree Murder-Felony Murder, Conspiracy, Armed Carjacking, and Armed Robbery.

Cooper, who hails from Northeast, D.C., was apprehended by essentially the same team that took Washington into custody nearly two years earlier. The case remains active, as detectives work to piece together the events leading up to Crawford’s untimely death.
