WASHINGTON — Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen toured the Museum Square Apartments Wednesday after residents in the 8-story building said they’ve been without a working elevator for months. According to Allen, the building has five total elevators, and two are currently bolted shut because they were deemed unsafe; the rest are unreliable and don’t work regularly
“There are about 58 residents in this building. Largely lower-income, older, vulnerable folks. For many, English is not a first language,” said Allen. “They’re being taken advantage of, plain and simple.”
Residents are forced to take the stairs, and one man on the fifth floor, who uses a wheelchair, can’t leave his floor. Allen says he’s trying to bring the full force of government to bring some relief…
