2 firefighters injured, 3 displaced in Southeast DC fire, officials say

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Three people are without a home, and two firefighters were injured after a fire broke out overnight in Southeast D.C., officials said.

In a post on the X platform just before 1 a.m., the DC Fire and EMS Department said crews were responding to an active fire at a two-story semi-detached home in the 3400 block of 24th Street SE.

At the scene, firefighters found heavy flames coming from both floors of the home with the residents safely evacuated outside.

Due to the severity of the fire, the home’s back porch collapsed, leaving a firefighter injured. As a result, crews issued a “Mayday” call.

Although hurt, the firefighter was not trapped and was able to get to safety. Responders then transported them to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries…
