FOX5 meteorologist Mike Thomas says the DC Metro area is in for a warmer stretch this week, but winter may not be finished just yet.
According to Thomas, temperatures will trend milder over the coming days, though the warmup will come with plenty of clouds and fog. Looking ahead to the weekend, he says several artificial intelligence–based weather models are signaling a potential winter weather system that could impact the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, including Maryland and Northern Virginia.
Thomas noted that recent model runs from Google WeatherNEXT, AI-GFS, and AI versions of the European model are showing a possible wintry mix or snow scenario for the weekend. However, some traditional physics-based forecast models, including the standard European operational model, currently suggest the system could miss the region altogether.
