Officers Remove Five Illegal Firearms from Streets

Montgomery County Police 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos said in a post on Friday that officers have seized five illegally possessed guns in Silver Spring during the week, highlighting a series of enforcement actions aimed at preventing shootings and other violent crimes in the area.

According to Cokinos, officers recovered the firearms during several separate incidents this week:

  • A juvenile was apprehended after a foot chase, during which the suspect allegedly tossed a loaded handgun while running from officers.
  • During a traffic stop, officers discovered a handgun with an extended magazine concealed in the driver’s waistband.
  • Officers seized a handgun and cocaine during another traffic stop after reportedly observing a drug deal.
  • In a separate stop, two guns were recovered and two occupants were arrested, with each person allegedly possessing a handgun. Police said one of the firearms had a drum magazine.

Cokinos said the enforcement activity reflects the ongoing work of Montgomery County Police 3rd District officers to remove illegal guns from the street and disrupt crime before violence occurs.
