The Spring Street Bridge in downtown Silver Spring is now expected to remain closed until summer, as construction delays caused by harsh winter weather have postponed its reopening, according to Maryland Purple Line officials.
The bridge replacement project, which first began in the summer of 2024, has experienced another delay due to the extreme cold and snow in January, according to communications director Kathryn Lamb in a statement sent to the Source on Thursday.
The Purple Line project continues to advance construction of the Spring Street Bridge and expects to be completed in summer 2026.
