Man to serve 21 years for killing bystander who defended mother during assault

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A 26-year-old man was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for killing a man who was trying to protect a mother during an assault in D.C.

The attorney’s office announced on March 6 that Stephen Herring was sentenced to 21 years, after pleading guilty to second-degree murder while armed in November.
