150,000 Tulips bloom on the National Mall

WASHINGTON — The National Mall turned into a colorful spring garden as Tulip Day made its debut in Washington, offering visitors the chance to pick their own bouquet from 150,000 tulips.

The one-day event transformed part of the Mall into a large tulip field, where visitors with reserved tickets were allowed to pick up to 10 flowers each to take home.

Tulip Day began in San Francisco and later expanded to New York City. The District joined the celebration for the first time this year…
