ALEXANDRIA, VA — The City of Alexandria has rededicated Calhoun Avenue as Robert L. “Bob” Calhoun Avenue, honoring the legacy and public service of a respected local and state leader.
Robert L. “Bob” Calhoun, a Yale-educated attorney, served the Alexandria community with distinction as a member of City Council, including time as vice mayor. Known for his civility and thoughtful leadership, Calhoun played a key role in shaping transportation policy and was instrumental in helping establish the City’s DASH bus system. He also supported important reforms in child custody law.
Calhoun later represented Alexandria in the Virginia Senate, where he continued to champion regional collaboration and community-focused policymaking throughout his tenure. He became a Living Legend of Alexandria in 2012…
