Larger-than-life bronze bison sculptures to be installed on National Mall

WASHINGTON — America 250 celebrations are approaching, and to bring in more energy, larger-than-life bronze American bison will be installed on the National Mall Friday between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. with a 100-foot-tall crane.

The bison first arrived on Thursday afternoon outside the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History at the building’s entrance.

The sculptures, which were created by renowned natural history artist Gary Staab, each weigh around 2,500 pounds and are 125% life size. They are based on historic Smithsonian specimens and are part of the Institution’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence…
