US Park Police officer wounded in DC shooting

(The Hill) — A U.S. Park Police officer was shot Monday evening in southeast Washington, D.C., authorities said.

Park Police Chief Scott Brecht told reporters Monday that officers were driving in an unmarked vehicle in the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place SE, near the border with Maryland, at roughly 7:30 p.m. ET when they were “ambushed” by at least two gunmen. One officer was struck by gunfire from the suspects, received first aid near the scene and was transported to a local hospital via helicopter by the Park Police aviation unit.

The veteran officer received treatment for “non-life threatening injuries,” Brecht said, with interim D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Chief Jeffery Carroll adding that the officer was hit in the upper body.
