Easton buying rail line for 2-mile elevated trail with $1.2M in funding secured

A vision for the Easton Highline elevated trail has taken a big step forward with more than $1.2 million awarded to buy an unused rail line for the project.

Local and state officials gathered Friday at the access point for the project — a dusty parking lot where South Fourth Street becomes Lehigh Drive at the Washington Street hill.

Mayor Sal Panto Jr. said the Highline would extend 2 miles from an old railroad trestle in Downtown Easton into West Easton, creating new economic and recreational opportunities…
