That sleek electric dirt bike or high-powered scooter zipping through your neighborhood may look like the future of transportation. In many cases, however, police say it is illegal to ride on public streets in Pennsylvania.

Law enforcement agencies across Montgomery and Bucks counties are reminding riders and parents this summer that while electric bicycles have surged in popularity, many of the vehicles seen on neighborhood roads, sidewalks and parks do not meet Pennsylvania’s legal definition of an electric bicycle and can be seized if operated illegally…
