Shock, sadness and determination: Workers, stakeholders react to JBS Souderton plant closure

SOUDERTON — The impending closure of the JBS USA beef processing plant in Souderton on August 14 has sent shockwaves through the community as workers, union leaders and local officials brace for the economic fallout.

The closure threatens the jobs of approximately 1,500 workers represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 and another 250 management employees. Union leaders said the shutdown could ultimately impact more than 2,000 jobs when factoring in businesses connected to the plant’s supply chain.
