Lehigh Township votes no on land preservation referendum

The Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors meeting on Aug. 11 saw a packed house, as residents with strong opinions on both sides of the land preservation discussion filled every seat and stood along the walls of the meeting room. Vice-Chairman Gerald Pritchard led the meeting in the absence of Chairman Michael Jones.

The Timothy Pitts land development project was granted an extension of time for plan recording until Feb. 28, 2027. Township Engineer Michael Muffley reported that the Timberline Road improvement project is currently out for bids, and he should be able to present bids to the supervisors in September. The Northwoods and Top of the Mountain projects are moving along well, and the Jaindl water treatment plant has begun construction. The Planning Commission is currently reviewing the finished changes to the zoning ordinances.

Public Works Director Frank Zamadics said that his crew expects to have everything ready for the oil and chip projects on selected roads during the first two weeks of September. He has received a report of possible marijuana smoking at Bryfogle Park but found nothing when he investigated. The police will continue to keep an eye on things just in case.
