The storied W. Atlee Burpee Company has been acquired by Central Garden & Pet Company, a publicly traded consumer goods company based in the San Francisco Bay area.
Burpee, one of the most well-known gardening brands in the U.S., was founded in 1876. It’s headquartered in Warminster Township, but it largely operates out of Fordhook Farm, the historic property in Doylestown Township where it has cultivated botanical gardens and bred new vegetable, flower, herb and fruit varieties since W. Atlee Burpee bought the farm in 1888.
