Allentown police rolling out ‘controversial’ gunshot detection program

Allentown police have announced the rollout of new gunshot detection technology aimed at tracking gunfire faster than a 911 call throughout the entire city. Police Chief Charles Roca, Mayor Matt Tuerk and other city officials Wednesday morning made the announcement during a news conference held at City Hall. The technology, being implemented by public safety tech company Flock Safety, is being partially backed by a total of $4.1 million in state grant funding. Flock Safety typically serves police departments and neighborhood associations.
