A mix of patchy freezing drizzle and flurries will make the morning commute miserable — and dangerous — for parts of upstate New York and New England while in New York City, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, drivers are dealing with slush-covered roadways.
A major system moved across Pennsylvania overnight, and could bring several inches of snow to Vermont and areas of Connecticut.
Parts of New Hampshire and Massachusetts also expect mixed precipitation throughout the day, with a few inches of snow possible in southern Massachusetts.
Winter weather alerts remain active for Springfield, Massachusetts; Portland, Maine; and New York college towns Oneonta and Binghamton.
Snow is also expected over parts of the central and southern Appalachians, according to the Weather Prediction Center .
As the storm heads toward the ocean, snow could develop in the Ohio River Valley, as well as the Great Lakes region and eastern New England.
