Governor Shapiro Says Billy Joel Owes Allentown New Song. (Allentown, PA) — Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro says singer Billy Joel owes Allentown a new song. The Democratic leader made his comments when he was in town earlier this week to unveil the state’s first statewide economic development strategy. He says the economic recovering that’s happening in Allentown and across the Lehigh Valley needs to be recognized and 40-year-old song no longer reflects the area’s outlook. It reflects a depressed economic time when the area’s steel mills were shutting down. The song peaked rose to 17 on the Billboard chart and continues to get radio air play and is reportedly is still played at Joel’s concerts.
